Why Your Pet Sitter Doesn’t Want You To Leave Your Windows Open

Summer is finally here and the weather is beautiful!  With the beautiful weather comes the opportunity to keep your windows open.  Being pet sitters, we worry about this for a variety of reasons. Continue reading

Will Your Pet Sitter Call Or Text You Updates When You’re Away?

upside down grey and white cat

We often get asked if we would email/text clients with updates and/or photos while they are away.  It’s understandable that people want to check up on their pets.  Hey, I’ve been known to call my pet sitter every day to check up on our fur kids while we’re on vacation so why should you be any different? Why Your Pet Sitter Wants You To Call When You Return Home From Vacation

8 week old red vizsla puppy

Whenever we sign up a new client we explain that we send a confirmation before they leave (read our post on Why We Send Confirmations).  We also explain that when they get back from their vacation we would like them to call and leave a message that they’ve returned home. Continue reading

How Long Should It Take For The Pet Sitter To Return Your Call?

cordless phone

I’m sure I’m not the only person who gets extremely frustrated when I leave a message for a service professional and don’t get a return call.  It amazes me at how many plumbers, electricians, contractors, etc. just don’t return phone calls.  I always wonder if they are so incredibly wealthy that they can just afford to blow people off.  It’s very disrespectful and bad business. Why Your Pet Sitter Should Be Insured And Bonded

himalayan cat

You’ve heard so many times when looking for a pet sitter to make sure they are insured and bonded.  What exactly does that mean to you?  Why not just have the neighborhood kid come and save some money?

Well, for one if a pet sitter is bonded and insured it means they are running a legitimate business.  By operating a legitimate business they are not treating this as a hobby or a way to make some easy cash.  More than likely it means the next time you need a pet sitter they will be there to help you. Does Your Pet Sitter Charge Extra To Administer Medications?

photo of pet medications

When I first started this business I charged different rates based on the number of pets that were in the household.  That was until people started hiding pets claiming they didn’t need any attention; they’d be fine.  Um, no.  They won’t.  (Yes, this DID happen).  So, I changed the pricing schedule and we now charge by time regardless of the number of pets in the household.  The only time that fee may change is if we can’t get everything done within the 20-30 minute visit.  If it takes more time, we charge accordingly. How To Earn FREE Pet Sitting or Dog Walking Visits!

FREE!

Pet sitting is a difficult business to try to market.  In order for a potential client to find us we have to be advertising in a location they look at the exact moment they realize they need a pet sitter.  Passive advertising doesn’t usually work because people see it and dismiss it because they don’t need a pet sitter or a dog walker at that exact moment. Continue reading

Your Pet Sitter REALLY Doesn’t Want To See You Naked!

Prior to your departure we always send a confirmation email which details the dates and times we are scheduled to visit your pets.  If your plans change, it’s very important that you let us know so we can adjust the schedule.  Imagine our surprise when we arrive for our first morning visit and we enter the house to find you sitting at the kitchen table in your underwear.  Yeah, it’s not pretty.  We are usually more embarassed than you are.   Continue reading

How Safe Is Your Information On File With The Pet Sitter?

client information

Whenever a potential new client leaves me a message I usually do a reverse lookup on their number before I call them back so I have an idea as to whether they are in our service area or not.  In doing a reverse lookup recently I found something that stunned me.  I found this person’s number listed on another pet sitter’s website.  That’s not what stunned me.  Continue reading

When Do You Pay The Pet Sitter Or Dog Walker?

note to pay the dog walker

We often get asked when payment for pet sitting or dog walking services are due.  This policy will vary by company, but our policy is for vacation clients payment is due prior to your departure.  That means before you leave you will need to leave payment on the counter and your pet sitter will pick it up on their first visit (we send you confirmation before you leave which includes your total).  Continue reading
