Why Your Pet Sitter Can’t “Pencil You In” To Their Schedule

pet sitter schedule

We love, love, LOVE clients who plan in advance.  We currently have bookings on the schedule from one client in particular (and you know who you are!) for August 2017 which was booked in August 2016!  Not everyone is that organized though. Continue reading

Why Should I Keep My Key On File With The Pet Sitter?

pet sitter keys

When using a pet sitting service for the first time it’s understandable that people are hesitant to hand over their keys.  We get that.  We always ask the client if they would like us to keep their key on file for future use.  I would say about 85% of new clients tell us absolutely, keep my key, I plan on using you again!  Every once in a while though people request their key be left on the pet sitter’s last visit. 5 Questions To Ask Before Hiring A Pet Sitter

black tortie cat

We recently hired a contractor to remodel our bathroom.  To say it was a debacle is an understatement.  What was originally supposed to be a one week job is now on week four with no end in sight.  It made me realize that there are questions you should ask of any contractor or service before you allow them into your home.  The same questions apply whether you’re getting your bathroom remodeled or whether you’re hiring a pet sitter. Does Your Pet Sitter Have Employees or Independent Contractors?

We are waist deep in the middle of a bathroom remodel.  Let’s just say it has not been a lot of fun not having a shower for two plus weeks with no end in sight.  What does this have to do with pet sitting?  Go grab yourself a drink and get comfortable and I will explain. Continue reading

Why Your Pet Sitter Doesn’t Want You To Leave A Key Under The Mat

cat with glasses

Whenever we sign up a new client we ask if they’d like us to keep the key on file for future use or if they’d like us to leave the key on the last visit.  Most people have us keep the key on file but there are a few that want us to leave it on the last visit and that is fine.  We make it clear that if they’d like to utilize our service again and we have to come back to pick up the key we do have to charge for the time to make the pickup. How One Piece Of Tape Can Prevent Headaches

When we sign up a new client we take copious notes on their pet and house care.  Having over fifteen years of experience we ask a lot of questions and know what types of things could potentially pose a problem.  Locks rank very high at the top of that list of potential problems. Continue reading

We Are Pet Sitters, Not Janitors

black dog on bed

The majority our pet sits are enjoyable.  We usually love the pets were are visiting and we get to enter a lot of homes we’ve always admired from afar.  Every once in a while however one comes through that we really don’t enjoy.  I’ve gotten a lot better over the years asking questions from callers before we agree to meet with them to weed out the undesirables. Why The Pet Sitter Won’t Leave Your Dog Outside Between Visits On Invisible Fence

poodle

The weather is finally beautiful and everyone wants to be outside, including your pets.  We’ve been getting a lot of requests lately for people who want us to leave their dogs outside on an invisible fence between our visits.  Depending on the number of times a client has us coming it could potentially be 12+ hours between visits.  Continue reading

Why Your Pet Sitter Wants You To Leave Your Air Conditioning On

upside down grey and white cat

Like everyone else I’m sure you’re feeling the pain of the dramatic rise in energy costs this year.  I’m sure it’s very tempting to turn off your air conditioning to try and save some money while you’re away.  While we completely agree with trying to save money, we beg you not to turn the air conditioning off completely.  You want your pets to be comfortable, right?  Your pet sitter also wants to be comfortable while visiting your pets.  If you shut your air off your pet sitter gets to sit in your sweltering house, sweating their derriere off.  It’s not very enjoyable.
